On June 29, 1998, OSHA issued a revision to the final rule on occupational exposure to asbestos in construction, 29 CFR 1926.1101, and shipyards, 29 CFR 1915.1001. This revision removes asbestos-containing roofing cements, mastics and coatings from the application of these two standards, and was the result of a decision by the U.S. Court of Appeals, 5th Circuit on July 24, 1997. The adopted revision does not affect the general industry asbestos standard, 29 CFR 1910.1001. The June 29, 1998, final rule revision (63 FR 35137-35138) was adopted verbatim with an effective date of October 8, 1998.
