RALEIGH—Struck-by incidents caused the largest number of non COVID-19 work-related deaths last year in the Tar Heel state, based on preliminary information released today by the N.C. Department of Labor (NCDOL). The department’s Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) Division inspected 49 non COVID-19 work-related fatalities in 2021. The division also inspected 25 cases reported as deaths related to COVID-19.

Labor Commissioner Josh Dobson will convene a meeting of the Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) Advisory Council on Wednesday, Nov. 10. The meeting—slated to begin at 10 a.m.—will be held both in-person and virtually from the NCDOL Lake Boone Trail Office in Raleigh.
A national campaign to promote workplace safety and health has been declared in North Carolina for the week of Aug. 9–15 by Gov. Roy Cooper and in conjunction with NCDOL, the state’s lead agency for workplace safety and health.
NCDOL today announces that North Carolina will adopt verbatim the federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration’s COVID-19 Emergency Temporary Standard (ETS) for Healthcare. The ETS will become effective in North Carolina on July 21, 2021.
