On June 18, 1998, federal OSHA promulgated a final rule that corrected or eliminated provisions from various standards (Federal Register). These changes were made to correct out of date, duplicative, unnecessary, or inconsistent standards. One of the changes concerns transporting explosives and blasting agents (Ref: 29 CFR 1910.109 - Explosives and blasting agents). Paragraph (d)(1)(iv) is amended to permit the transportation of blasting caps on the same vehicle with other explosives if it can be done in accordance with U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations at 49 CFR 177.835(g)(3)(i). The June 18, 1998, corrections and revisions were adopted verbatim with an effective date of October 8, 1998.
