This STD provides clarification for 29 CFR 1910.212(a)(5) - Machine guarding, general requirements; Establishes guarding requirements for fans within seven (7) feet of floor or working level. Old STD number: STD 1-12.1 - Defining Acceptable Guarding of Fan Blades. This STD clarifies the use of floor fans. The subject paragraph means that all fans within 7 feet of the floor or working level must be guarded. The guard must not have openings greater than one-half inch in width.
