FOM Chapter 17 - Ergonomics Inspection Procedures

This document provides guidance for OSH Division CSHOs and Consultants to use in conducting inspections/surveys of workplaces where ergonomic hazards may exist and in determining the appropriate responses to those hazards. It covers a three phase process: Phase One activities are intended to screen out cases where the employer is responding appropriately to any ergo hazard that exists. Phase Two involves the identification of specific ergo hazards and deficiencies in the employer’s response to those hazards. Phase Three stipulates the requirements for issuance of a citation under the general duty clause of the OSH Act (for CSHOs only).
