On April 18, 2012, federal OSHA issued a final rule (Federal Register) to correct its sling standard for construction titled “Rigging Equipment for Material Handling” (1926.251) by removing the rated capacity tables and making minor, non-substantive revisions to the regulatory text. The N.C. Commissioner of Labor adopted this final rule with an effective date of June 11, 2012.

Also reference CPL 02-01-014 Alloy Steel Chain Slings Proof-Testing. Additional information and resources can be found on the safety and health topic page for Materials Handling and Storage. To determine if this rule applies, go to "Do your employees use rigging equipment?".
