CFR 167 - Signs, Signals and Barricades
On September 12, 2002, federal OSHA promulgated the final rules, 29 CFR 1926.200 - Accident prevention signs and tags, 1926.201 -Signaling and 1926.202 (Note: Not active), Safety Standards for Signs, Signals, and Barricades (Federal Register). This final rule revision requires that traffic control signs, signals, barricades or devices protecting workers conform to Part IV of either the 1988 Edition of the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD), with the 1993 revisions (revision 3) or the Millennium Edition of the FHWA MUTCD, instead of ANSI D6.1-1971, Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices for Streets and Highways (1971 MUTCD). The N.C. Commissioner of Labor adopted the federal Safety Standards for Signs, Signals, and Barricades standard verbatim.
