On 31 January 1990, Federal OSHA published a final rule (Federal Register) for exposures of hazardous chemicals in laboratories at 29 CFR 1910.1450, Subpart Z. This final rule applies to all laboratories that use hazardous chemicals in accordance with the definition of laboratory use and scale provided in the standard. For covered laboratories, this standard retains the obligation to maintain employee exposures at or below the PEL's specified in 29 CFR 1910, Subpart Z. This federal final rule at 29 CFR 1910.1450 has been adopted verbatim by the Commissioner of Labor with an effective date of 3 September, 1990.
