PDF • 110.67 KB - December 29, 2022

On June 18, 1998, federal OSHA promulgated a final rule that corrected or eliminated provisions from various standards (63 FR 33449-33469). One of the changes concerns the standard on coke oven emissions (29 CFR 1910.1029). Paragraph (j)(2)(vii) is deleted to remove the requirement for sputum cytology. In addition, paragraph (j)(3) is revised to change the frequency of required chest x-rays for affected workers 45 years of age and older. The June 18, 1998, corrections and revisions (63 FR 33449-33469) were adopted verbatim with an effective date of October 8, 1998.

Additional resources and information can be found on the safety and health topics page for Chemical Hazards and Toxic Substances. To determine if this rule applies, go to "Do your employees have occupational exposure to coke oven emissions?"
