On January 14, 1993, federal OSHA promulgated a new occupational safety and health standard in General Industry for Permit-Required Confined Spaces - (1910.146) which became effective April 15, 1993. On May 19. 1994, federal OSHA issued a second set of corrections for this final rule (Federal Register). These corrections [1] add the metric equivalent "1.52" in paragraph 1910.146(k)(3)(ii) and [2] revise Section (2) Atmospheric monitoring of Appendix E of the final rule.

These corrections to the final rule at 29 CFR 1910, Subpart J, were adopted verbatim in North Carolina by the Commissioner of Labor with an effective date of September 1, 1994.
